VILLA SAN ANTONIO

Santiago de Cali, Colombia
Residential  /   254 m2   /  2016

___

Stretching along a narrow and very long plot in the middle of the city’s old colonial neighborhood, the proposed design is conceived by utilizing elements and principles of vernacular local architecture using a contemporary language along with a minimal and elegant palette. The result is a house of terracotta and white, where the tightness of the plot is used to conceal a private realm of air and light, where the boundary between interior and exterior is blurred, slowly revealing its dwellers with an atmosphere of serenity and while showing the best of the local climate and traditions. The water is a specially featured element, present all along the house, in a cycle of passive purification, which starts in the ‘water wall’ where it oxygenates while it drops, followed by a pond filled with local flora and fish, naturally eliminating impurities, and then being deposited within a pool that helps refresh during the year-long summers of the area, before going back to the beginning of the process.
